    Finally! Finally!

    Finally!

Finally!

The best week of the year is (finalllllllly) here! My wedding week! Eeek, it’s actually happening in 4 days… I am such a lucky girl. I can hardly contain my excitment, woohoo 😀 After being a part of countless weddings over the years, it’s incredibly surreal and unbelievable that it’s actually going to be OUR day! Of course it wouldn’t be a complete wedding without some glam time.  You know I will be doing my own makeup using only the BEST – Elevé Cosmetics! I am also doing my 2 sisters and moms makeup on the big day.  I know, I know, people may think I am cray cray (for more reasons than one!) but doing makeup is my zen, my happy place, my passion,  so why not do what I love on such a special day?!? This Wednesday I’ll be packing my wedding dress and hopping on a jet plane and off we will go to Puerto Rico for our wedding & honeymoon! I’ll have limited access to email but will be checking at least once per day, so don’t worry if you desperately need to reach me… I won’t be completely out of touch.  I will be sipping on piña coladas (and champagne!!) with some of the best people in the world, so please excuse some delay in responding 😉 Haha! I am very lucky to work with such an amazing team who is going to help me out while I am gone! Running a business (ok, make that two businesses) is NOT always glamorous, especially from an island! 😛 I will try to take it easy on the lovey dovey wedding sappy posts, but you can bet there will plenty of gorgeous scenery, beaches, dresses, makeup and everything Puerto Rican on my feed. Don’t miss a thing! Follow me on Instagram to […]

Elevé Cosmetics

Hi y’all! It’s been a WHILE! I have been hard, hard at work on my new baby… Elevé Cosmetics! Meet my new beauty line that I have been busy developing for the past year!  After a shit ton of work, frustration, happiness, annoyance, excitement, eagerness and MUCH anticipation, I am so excited to say that Elevé officially launched last month. Today it is sold online and in Austin at Underwear Austin. Woohoo!! Why Elevé? As y’all know, I have been working hard as a makeup artist for the past 7 years. Over the years, I took notice to how few “natural” cosmetic products there were available that actually worked. I have noticed how many women care what they put in their bodies and on their bodies. With this experience in mind, I set out to create a line for modern women that offers natural beauty products with only the highest quality ingredients! Elevé Cosmetics is all-natural, vegan, GMO-free, gluten-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free, phthalate-free, and cruelty-free.   Elevé is a one-woman show (me!!!). It is literally packed with love – in my living room – sometimes with my sweet mom helping out, haha! I prepare, package, ship, and truly send every order with love. I take each order VERY personally and appreciate every single customer! This is for all of the beautiful women who care about what you put in your body. This is for women who feel they deserve better. This is to help boost confidence without having to sacrifice quality. This is my way of making the world a more beautiful place, inside and out, one face at a time Follow my adventures with Elevé on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. I hope I get to see all of your pretty faces soon. THANK YOU for all the love and […]

SXSW 2015

SXSW always brings it, and this year was no different! I was honored to be asked back to style hair for the the Neiman Marcus Make Some Noise Event. The event celebrates bold women and bold voices… can I get a HELL yeah?! The people I had the opportunity to work with were SOOOOOO incredibly inspiring. Their positive energy and words had a profound effect and seated themselves deep in my soul. I left there a changed woman who is even more motivated to take on this big world! From the amazing Jenna Bush Hegar to Actress Rosario Dawson to Activist and Singer Gracie Schram, meeting and working with each woman had a unique and positive impact on me! My work from the event has been featured in some AMAZING publications, including Us Weekly, The Huffington Post, Entertainment Weekly, WWD, Adweek… AHHH!!!!! #blownaway 😀 This year, I left SXSW a completely {exhausted} excited, driven, and HAPPY woman   XOXO My work is done  Until we meet again next year..

Love, love, love

Happy mid-January! If your year is going like mine, it’s just flying right by! I complied a list of my favorite, unique gift ideas of all prices for your special girl or guy for Valentine’s Day (No, it’s not too early to plan!)  Enjoy! For your man- 1) Stone Drink Dispenser– Put his (or your!) favorite spirits on tap. How cool is this?! 2) J.Crew Monogram Tie– Personal, thoughtful, classic and silk! What more do you need? 3) A MAN candle– These made me LOL! Cute idea for the man that loves the smell of…  alcohol? I am dying to smell the Bourbon one. Regardless, adorable gift!   For your lady- 1) A delicious bottle of champagne & a box of chocolates- Romantic and sweet! 2) Boot Cuffs– These are so IN right now! Your lady will be impressed– she will adore them! 3) Kendra Scott– This may be a repeat (sorry!) but this is a GIMME! You can pretty much pick anything from this store and your girl will be in h-e-a-v-e-n! (I am loving Sandra Pendant Necklace in mint in the link) Extra: I am HUGE fan of hand-delivering flowers rather than having an *unreliable* flower company deliver them for you! 😉 Trust me, you will earn you major brownie points when you show up to her work or house with a beautiful bouquet!    Couple Ideas- 1) Compile a list of things you LOVE about each other and share it over wine! Simple, romantic, inexpensive. 2) CUTEST idea that my sister is doing with her husband this year- They are each getting a set of tickets to something (event, concert, show, can be any kind of ticket) which they will reveal on Valentine’s as each others present! 3) Avoid […]

5 Eye-Popping Tips

MASCARA is one of my favorite beauty products! I love the distinct impact it has and for that reason I don’t leave the house without it! I am an admitted mascara junkie 😉 Below are 5 tips on how to easily apply & what to use: 1) Prep your lashes. Curl your lashes everyday!  I love the Japonesque Precision curler (pictured below) which is small and curls the lashes in sections. In Austin, you can pick up this curler at Rae Cosmetics. This allows you to have more control and helps prevent pinching the delicate skin around the eye-area. Prime your lashes (I swear by this!) for less clumping, thicker lashes, and an easier mascara application. My hands-down favorite is Lancome’s Cils Booster XL.   2) Coat both sides of your lashes to thicken them. This will make the lashes appear thicker and darker. Be sure to coat all the way from the root to the lash tip and wiggle the wand at the base.   3) Apply mascara to the bottom lashes, too! Don’t forget this step for even more pop! Hold the mascara wand horizontally and coat underneath the bottom lashes for a more dramatic effect. Don’t worry if you make a mess or accidentally get mascara underneath your eye, simply swipe it with a cotton swab and a drop of moisturizer. 4) Use your mascara as eyeliner. A great tip if you are in pinch or just simply want more of a gel liner effect. Use an eyeliner brush and swipe the mascara wand and line closely to the base of your lashes. Once it dries, your mascara-made-liner will not budge! 5) SPLURGE! I know this is a disputable tip. I hear often that drugstore mascara is “just as good.”  I firmly believe that […]

Sweet Glamorous Dreams

Hi beauties! This is a convo I have quite a bit with clients, family and friends. What is the best way to take care of your skin at night? Your nighttime beauty regimen can have a big impact on your complexion. Your skin repairs itself at night, so it’s important to take advantage of those precious eight (or more if you are lucky!) hours and ensure you wake up RADIANT!  Here are a few must-dos before your head hits that satin* pillowcase *Satin pillowcase will help keep your stands smooth throughout the night and won’t cause face crinkles!   1) Remove Eye Makeup I have tried so many pricey eye makeup removers that didn’t do the job. Once I discovered almond oil, I was fascinated! It’s natural, affordable AND effective! Place a dime-sized amount in the palm of you hand, a little goes a long way! Then, with your fingertips,  gently rub the eye area for about 60 seconds to remove all residue.  I purchased a small bottle at Whole Foods for about $5 but you can also find it online. It works fabulously! An added bonus: I have noticed the almond oil has kept my eyes hydrated! 2) Cleanse Don’t even think about going to bed without washing that pretty face! 😉  I have tried many cleansers throughout the years and have really never been 100% happy with any of them. Recently, my sister found this AMAZING recipe for a Mango & Carrot Butter Cleanser  and shared it with me. We decided to make it one evening (over wine of course) and it was actually fun and not too hard. We both highly recommend it! It leaves skin feeling extra soft (think baby skin!) and is moisture-rich. I say, if you can’t find what you love, make it yourself […]

It’s time to get personal! I’ve been dying to tell y’all about my recent engagement, share pics, and tell you the plans! I figured what better of a day to do it than EXACTLY one year from our wedding right?! That’s right.. July 24, 2015 we tie the knot! Ahhh! We decided to have a long engagement and really try to enjoy every minute of it. It was very important to us to not rush! But look out San Juan, Puerto Rico, we are coming to town in exactly one year! Our wedding will be very small in the historic district of Old San Juan.  It’ll be non-traditional in many ways but still be romantic and personal. I just bought my dress 2 weeks ago and I can’t waaaaaait to wear it and show y’all. But you’ll have to wait and so will I! Ha!   Click here if you want to read about HOW my charmer popped the question 😉 Now, let’s get to the good stuff.  Engagement pics!  We had the BEST TEAM.  Ainsley Joseph seriously killled it behind the camera, Lauren Lumsden rocked my makeup, and Mandi Jo helped assist us on set. I did my own hair for the photos and also did the darker makeup look. It was sooo much fun and I can’t say enough great things about Ainsley! He was totally open to us doing something unique and different and brought some cool ideas to the table. If you know me (or Bill) the typical kissy pics just were not going to cut it. Note: Bill does photography on the side, so between us our artsy minds can get out-of-control 😉  Alright, that’s all for now, folks! I am REALLY looking forward to this adventure! More […]

Good Vibes

Hey hey! I am so excited to share a fun piece I worked on a couple of weeks ago, The Rankin Twins new music video, GOOD VIBES! Not only did I glam the twins pretty faces, I also got to appear in the video with my cutie pie fiancé! It was such a fun evening prepping the girls and then filming! SO makeup… I absolutely looooove the look we decided on for the twins’ makeup. We decided to go with a really BOLD cat eye and then topped it with bronze cheeks and a nude lip. It all tied together just perfectly! Don’t they look GORGEOUS in this style of makeup?!  This is definitely outside-of-the-box look as far as what we normally do on them! Mission accomplished Watch the “Good Vibes” music video below and check out a few behind-the-scenes pics I posted too!  The video will only be up for 12 hours (until 10PM central time on July 21st) so hurry and watch! It won’t be live again until their NEW album release in December!     XO Lots of love, Gertie

Each team of artists is competing against each other and must create and implement an award-winning concept for a SINGLE photo! This is my third year to participate. I love a good competition I had a blast this year and am very proud of our work. I was lucky this year to get the opportunity to work with my talented fiance on our photo- who is a photographer- Bill Wilson of billaustinphotography
